FedEx Shipment Description - How to Fill It Out Correctly?

The purpose of this article is to guide you on the importance of providing detailed descriptions of goods in FedEx international shipments, helping to avoid delays and customs hold-ups.

As of November 12, 2024, CBP began requiring more detailed descriptions of goods for shipments destined for the United States or in transit through the country.

CBP (Customs and Border Protection) is the U.S. customs and border protection agency responsible for inspecting goods entering the country.

Incomplete or inaccurate descriptions can cause delays in customs clearance.

Therefore, below are some important guidelines to help you correctly fill out the goods description when creating a shipment.

After all, what should be included in the product description?

When describing a product, it is important to include the following information:

  • What the item is;

  • What it is made of;

  • What it is used for;

  • Quantity shipped;

  • Manufacturer's name and address.

The clearer and more detailed the description, the less likely it is that customs will hold the shipment or request additional information.

Examples of Descriptions

Below are some examples of descriptions that are typically provided in a generic manner, along with how they should be filled out correctly.
